Nissan GT-R introduces specially developed tyres with nitrogen filled at factory
The latest supercar to hit the roads arrived in UK dealers from March 2009. The Nissan GTR was launched in Japan in December 2007 and is the first Nissan GTR to be distributed outside of Japan officially under the endorsement of Nissan Europe.
Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the car in June 2008 and in his final verdict announced it “Unfathomably good”. He also stated “The attention to detail has been extraordinary. For instance, the GT-R’s tyres are filled with nitrogen because ordinary air expands and contracts too much. And each gearbox is specifically mated to each handmade engine”
So why does Jeremy think that this is so great? Nitrogen is widely used for tyre inflation in the motor sport and aviation sectors and in a number of European countries for car and commercial vehicle tyres.

Under inflated tyres create drag which increases tread wear, fuel costs and the risk of punctures as well as having a significant effect on a cars performance both in handling and cost. Using nitrogen improves pressure retention and ensures that the tyres remain fully inflated for longer.
As a pre-requisite to supply the new Nissan GT-R in Europe, Nissan Japan insisted that each Nissan garage and dealership have nitrogen systems in their workshop to ensure that the performance of the car can be maintained and the servicing of the car is carried out to the highest standards. To this aim there are 10 specialist dealers which are Nissan High Performance Centres which have been appointed in the UK to ensure that all customers can receive the level of special attention and the after care service required by Japan.
After care service also includes a pick up from anywhere in the country to take the Nissan GT-R to the nearest High Performance Centre where the tyres can be checked and topped up with nitrogen as necessary.
Developed by Pneu-air in the 1990’s Uniflate Nitrogen inflation is the result of constant research and over 16 years experience in Formula 1 and the general motoring sector.
Uniflate Nitrogen Tyre inflation is now available at over 150 sites in the UK including selected Kwik-Fit and ATS Euromaster sites as well as Selecta Tyre, Merityre, North East Tyres and many other independent retailers.
